FirstPromoter allows you to track your affiliates and influencers by both referral links and coupon codes when referral links are not allowed, for example in Instagram.

Coupon code tracking works only if you can give discounts or other offers to promoter friends or followers.

Note: We don't apply the discounts and other offers like free months automatically, you need to have a coupon/promo code field on your payment/subscription page.

IMPORTANT: 100% discount coupons are not tracked as FirstPromoter doesn't track 0 amount invoices.

First let's see how promo codes are handled by FirstPromoter

You can add promo codes to FirstPromoter in 2 ways:

  1. Coupon codes set at the campaign level which are visible to all affiliates running the campaign. Since they are not unique(all affiliates share the same coupon) they can't be used for tracking, affiliates can share them together with the affiliate links as a way to encourage the sale. We won't talk about them in this article.

  2. Unique coupon codes set at the promotion level which are unique for each promotion and can be used for tracking and shared without the referral link.

To set unique tracking promo codes, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Make sure you set an offer for the campaign or for the promotion. When you click "Set offer" and select "discount", you'll see a box named "Coupon code". You're not required to fill that box...filling that box will set up a "campaign level" promo code visible to all affiliates not a tracking one.

  2. Go to Promotions section and click "Set promo code" on the promotion that corresponds to your promoter. If you don't see 'Set promo code', click on the menu icon(3 horizontal bars)  and select 'Edit promotion'.

  3. Go to your billing provider and create a new coupon code (not promotion code). We recommend to personalize it with the promoter name like "FIRSTPROMOTER20".

  4. Back at FirstPromoter, enter the coupon code in the "Tracking Coupon Code" field.
IMPORTANT: For Stripe users, "Tracking Coupon Code" field should be filled with the Coupon ID, NOT a promotion code. A unique coupon should be created for each promoter and you CAN'T re-use the same coupon id for other promoters.

    The Coupon ID can be found in Stripe - Products - Coupon - Select the coupon - Details - ID;

If you're using the new Stripe Promotion codes feature, enter one of the promotion codes in the "Customer facing promotion code" field.

For Stripe, you will have to fill both of the fields:
    1 - Tracking coupon code
2 - Customer facing promotion code

  5. Click 'Save'

Be careful!! Make sure that you haven't entered the same coupon code on another promotion, it has to be unique for each promotion, otherwise FirstPromoter won't be able to assign the sales properly.
