Setup coupon codes for tracking sales

FirstPromoter allows you to track your affiliates through both referral links and coupon codes as well, which is particularly useful in scenarios where referral links are restricted, such as on Instagram.

This is for FirstPromoter v2, if you are still using v1, please check this article

Coupon code tracking is effective when providing discounts or other offers to promoter friends or followers. It's important to note that FirstPromoter doesn't automatically apply discounts or offers like free months; instead, you must have a coupon or promo code field on your payment or subscription page.

Please note that 100% discount coupons are not tracked, as FirstPromoter does not check invoices with a 0 amount. Tracking will only work with amounts of $0.5 or above.

Now, let's dive into how promo codes are managed by FirstPromoter. You can add promo codes in two ways:

  1. Campaign-Level Coupon Codes:

    • These are visible to all affiliates running the campaign but are not unique. Since all affiliates share the same coupon, they cannot be used for tracking. Affiliates can share them alongside affiliate links to encourage sales, but we won't elaborate on them in this article.

  2. Unique Coupon Codes at the promoter level (tracking coupons):

    • These codes are unique for each promoter and can be used for tracking. They can also be shared without a referral link.

To set up unique tracking promo codes, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the promoters overview page;

  2. Select the desired campaign where you want to add the coupon;

    Note that if a promoter is added to multiple campaigns, you will need to use a unique coupon code for each of them if you want to include a coupon code specific to that promoter in each campaign

  3. Scroll down to the Coupon code section and click on "Edit";

  4. Create a new coupon code (not promotion code) in your billing provider. We recommend personalizing it with the promoter's name, such as "FIRSTPROMOTER20";

  5. In FirstPromoter, set the status to active, and enter the Coupon Code and Display coupon code.

    This is how the tracking coupon section will appear on the affiliate dashboard:

IMPORTANT for Stripe users

  • In the "Coupon Code" field, use the Coupon ID, NOT a promotion code. Create a unique coupon for each promoter, and do not use the same coupon ID for other promoters.

  • The Coupon ID can be found in Stripe - Product Catalogue - Coupons - Select the coupon - Details - ID;

  • If using the new Stripe Promotion codes feature, enter one of the promotion codes in the "Display Coupon" field;

  • For Stripe, fill both fields: "Coupon Code" and "Display Coupon".
