How to set up two-factor authentication (2FA)

Add an extra layer of security to your FirstPromoter account with two-factor authentication.

Written by Louis Anghel

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second verification step when you sign in to your FirstPromoter account and when processing direct payouts, keeping your account secure even if your password is compromised.

How to get there

Go to Settings (top-right corner) → User tabSecurity.

Setting up 2FA

  1. Under Security, click Set up two-factor authentication.

  2. Choose how you'd like to receive your sign-in codes:

    • Authenticator app: use an app like Google Authenticator or Authy to generate codes.

    • Email code: receive a code to your email each time you sign in.

  3. Follow the on-screen steps to complete setup.

Save your backup codes. After setup, you'll be given emergency backup codes. Store them somewhere safe, you'll need them if you lose access to your authenticator app or email.

Changing or disabling 2FA

Once enabled, you'll see your current method displayed under Security (e.g. "Authenticator app"). From there you can:

  • Click Change method to switch between authenticator app and email code.

  • Click Disable to turn 2FA off entirely.

Requiring 2FA for your whole team

Account owners can require every team member to use 2FA. Toggle on Require two-factor authentication for team members under Security. Only the account owner can change this setting.

2FA and direct payouts

You'll still be prompted to verify with 2FA when processing direct payouts (PayPal one-click, Stripe Payouts). This is automatic, no separate setup needed.
