How Zapier Works
Zapier automations are called Zaps. Each Zap consists of two main parts:
Trigger: An event that starts the workflow in one app (such as receiving a new Promoter Signup, Referral Created, Referral Converted, or Commission Created event, etc.).
Action: The task that Zapier automatically performs in response within another app (such as tracking a sale, tracking lead signup, creating a promoter, creating a commission, etc.).
How to Install the "FirstPromoter v2 with triggers" app
To use Triggers or Actions available in the "FirstPromoter v2 with triggers" app in Zapier, kindly follow the steps below.
Step 1:
Ensure you are already logged in to Zapier.
Step 2:
Install the "FirstPromoter v2 with triggers" app by clicking the invite link (https://zapier.com/developer/public-invite/215402/39aea398460ea85023d7fa0799366cc6/).
Ensure you click the "Accept invite & Build a Zap" button.
Triggers available within the app
A trigger is the specific event that starts an automation workflow (called a Zap) in Zapier. It tells the platform exactly when to run your automated task.
The "FirstPromoter with triggers" app currently has about 24 triggers that enable you to receive data in your Zap.
Here are some frequently used triggers:
Referral Created
- Triggers when a new referral is created.
Referral Converted
- Triggers when a referral(lead) makes its first purchase payment and is converted to a customer.
Referral Cancelled
- Triggers when a referral cancels or is cancelled via the API.
Promoter Created
- Triggers when a new promoter signs up or is created via the API.
Promoter Updated
- Triggers when a promoter’s account details are updated or changed.
Promoter Balance Updated
- Triggers when a promoter’s earnings, current, or paid balance changes.
Promoter Campaign Created
- Triggers when a promoter is added to a campaign.
Promoter Campaign Accepted
- Triggers when a promoter’s campaign application is accepted.
Promoter Campaign Pending
- Triggers when a promoter’s campaign participation is set to pending review.
Commission Created
- Triggers when a new commission is created.
Commission Pending
- Triggers when a commission is set to pending.
Commission Approved
- Triggers when a commission is approved.
How to configure a trigger in your zap
Assuming you want to receive the "Referral Created" event or referral/lead data when a lead/referral signs up. You would need to follow the steps below.
Step 1: Create a new Zap, or open an existing one.
Step 2: Click on the Trigger button
Step 2a: Search for "FirstPromoter v2 with triggers" and click on it.
Step 3: Search/select the "Referral Created" Trigger event.
Step 3: Click on the "Sign in" button
Step 3a: Enter your v2 API key and your FirstPromoter Account ID and click on the "Connect" button. For instructions on how to access the account ID or v2 API key, click on "more".
Step 3b: Click on the "Continue" button after the connection is established.
Step 4: Copy your webhook URL and use it to create a webhook in FirstPromoter.
Step 5: Click "Test Trigger" only after the webhook is created in FirstPromoter, and "Run Test" is performed in FirstPromoter. See how to create a webhook
Step 6: Select the record/event data received (Referral A) and click "Continue" to use it in an action for your automation needs.
How to use the "FirstPromoter with triggers" App's Actions in your Zap.
An action is the specific task that Zapier automatically performs after a trigger starts your workflow. It is the actual work you want done across your connected apps.
Examples:
Track a sale and commission
Track a refund and negative commission
Track a signup/lead
Create a Promoter
Assuming you want to track a sale to FirstPromoter, follow the steps below. The guide assumes that you have already installed the "FirstPromoter v2 with trigger" app.
Step 1: Open your zap and click on the "Action" button.
Step 2a: Search for "FirstPromoter v2 with triggers" and click on it.
Step 3: Select the Action event:
Step 4: Select an account and continue. If you haven't connected your Firstpromoter account before, then click the "Sign in" button; enter your v2 API key and your FirstPromoter Account ID, and click on the "Connect" button. For instructions on how to access the account ID or v2 API key, click on "more".
Step 5: Map the fields with the values you want to send in the action from previous steps and continue. For Sale tracking, the Email or UID field is required
Step 6: Test and publish the zap.
How to create a webhook in Firstpromoter using the copied webhook URL from your Zap
To use the webhook URL copied from your Zap to create a Webhook in Firstpromoter, kindly follow the steps below:
Step 1: Go to Settings → Integrations → Webhooks and click Add new webhook.
Step 2: Paste the copied Webhook URL from your Zap.
Step 3: Select the desired event and click "Apply". The selected event in FirstPromoter must correspond to the event selected on your Zap.
Step 4: Select the desired campaign(s) to receive data/events from.
Step 5: Test webhook. To test the webhook, click on "Select event"; then select the desired Webhook event and click "Run Test".
Step 6: After the test is successful, click on Add Webhook.
